Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Ensure that your name does not appear anywhere in your manuscript (including references to your own work in the first person). Instead, upload a cover letter that includes: your name, affiliation, email address, title of your manuscript, and a 200-word abstract written in English, regardless of the language of the essay itself. For articles with more than one author, you can include the requested personal information for all authors in one cover sheet.
  • Ensure that your final manuscript adheres to our limit of 9,000 words (including notes and
    Works Cited).
  • A list of 5-9 keywords accompanies your submission and is included in the cover letter.
  • The manuscript is prepared according to the guidelines in the Ninth Edition of the MLA Style Guide.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations and figures are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • All notes are placed at the end in a separate Notes section (endnotes). Do not include an
endnote in the title of the article. Use only one endnote per sentence.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in our "Manuscript Preparation Guidelines and Author Checklist," found immediately following this list or requirements.
  • Each textual reference corresponds to a complete reference in the Works Cited. The list of Works Cited conforms strictly to the MLA Style Manual, ninth edition, and all titles are complete (including subtitles).
  • Permissions are secured in writing for the use of all images/figures included, and a copy is uploaded along with the submission.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format.

Author Guidelines

In an attempt to expedite the publication process, the Editors request that authors adhere to the following formatting guidelines when preparing their articles. These instructions apply to all manuscripts. If you have any questions, or if your manuscript requires any special formatting that is not contemplated here, please contact us (reh@wustl.edu).

If you are making a submission in English, please follow these guidelines.

If you are making a submission in Spanish, please follow these guidelines.

Please check the boxes that correspond to your case and make sure to include a PDF copy of your filled-out checklist with your submission.

Important considerations:

  • It is the author's responsibility to verify the accuracy of all quoted and cited material in the manuscript.
  • Manuscripts with excessive deviations from these guidelines will be returned to the author for emendation, thus delaying the publication process.
  • Submit your manuscript as a Word Document. Ensure that your name does not appear anywhere in the initial submission of your manuscript (including references to your own work in the first person). An acknowledgement note should not be included in the submission, as it may compromise the anonymity of the process. (These may be included after the essay has been accepted.) Your essay should instead be accompanied by a cover sheet (in a separate file) that will include the necessary identifying information, such as your name, email address, institutional affiliation, the title of your essay, and a 200-word abstract. For articles with more than one author, include this information for all authors.

Articles

The journal will sondier studies on all areas and periods within Hispanic literatures, cultures, and film. We particularly welcome theoretically innovative articles that cross geographical, generic, and disciplinary boundaries.

All articles submitted must be the original work of the authors and may not be published or considered for publication elsewhere without the permission of the Editor.

Review the author guidelines posted above before making a submission.

Book Reviews

Unsolicited book reviews will not be published. We accept book review requests for critical works such as monographs and anthologies of essays in the fields of literary and cultural studies as well as scholarly editions of secondary works. We do not take requests for reviews of fiction, poetry, facsimiles, or historical studies.
